data, jump start others, make contacts, use a simple web page format.
...Do not trust as totally valid any
tree/report data...it will be my best guess at the time of working on a specific
project. Often World Connect or Ancestry trees/data were utilized as a
foundation upon which to add material gleamed from obits, articles, histories,
biographies, stories, burials, censuses and other data collected.
Various pics & data supplied and in collaboration with g/gdau of Dr. Marcus, gdau of Dr. Frank ( 2005, 2007, 2012).

abt 1878, Dr. Marcus Baker began to practice medicine in Fayette.IA. His first office would have been above the ground floor of a building on the west side of Main.St, between Water & State, or the 'first block' of Main. Parker and son Dr. James Parker. Dr. C.C. had come to Fayette by 1856, was a civil war doctor, which returned and went into partnership with Dr. Dixon Alexander, practicing from home on the north block of Washington St and the west side of the first block of north Main. The Parker building would be built on lot 10, sometime after Dr. Marcus Baker was already practicing on lot 10. In 1885Oct01, Dr. Baker bought lot 10, the 3rd lot from the south end of the west side of bk 7, E side of Main.St, 2nd bk from Main/Water St intersection. Lot 10 would become the location of Dr. Baker's 'office.' ...1882Sep26, Dr. M.Y. Baker who has
always sat on the top stair of the medical step-ladder since opening up his pill
artillery in this community has recently demonstrated that he knows a thing or
two about bone architecture. Our near neighbor, Mr. Crimm, who was
supposed to be fatally injured by a hand-car six weeks ago, has concluded,
through the advice of the Doctor, and his family to wait till spring now, at
least, before chancing the Unknown by the way of a hand-car, unless taht quadru-wheeled
monstrosity overtakes him in the house. But we started to speak of the
Dr., and the infernal hand-car has got us off the track. That reminds us:
we were a "little off" conce before and the Doctor switched us on with medicine
fiery enough to make a yaller dog hold up a front leg like a battered excalmaton
point in a dull editorial. If we conclude to suicide we shall avoid him
and that little haversack.

Memories (2005), Dr.
Frank's granddaughter:
...There was a large stairway that my Dad would help me slide down the
banister. Under the stairs was a coat rack/table/seat that still had Marcus and
Frank's Dr. bags sitting under, just the way they had left them.
...A beautiful music box sat on table. The music box had been promised to me by
Grandma the first time we came for a visit.
...The Parlor (living room) had a very good upright piano and a courting chair.
I have the table and nude statue that stood in the window.
...The kitchen table had been used for emergency surgery.
...There still was a working hand pump in the kitchen.
...A narrow stairway hidden behind a small door in the kitchen led to the maids
quarters (cot and small dresser) that was located just off the bathroom
upstairs.
...If you went up the main stairs you would find the Master bedroom on the left
which also opened to the bathroom. In the bathroom was a footed tub, pedestal
sink and toilet with a water closet and pull chain. There was a round or hexagon
window behind the tub that my Mom assured me was too low for anyone to see over
the tub. back in the hallway.
...On the right was a small room with a door that hid the stairs to the attic.
Nothing had been thrown away so it was a treasure room.
...Back to the Hallway and on to another large bedroom on the right which has
the windows you see in the old picture.
...On the left of the hallway was another bedroom.
...In the basement was a lab table where my Grandfathers' (Dr. Marcus & Dr.
Frank) to make the medicine for their patients complete with test tubes. It was
still there in 1955.
...There was also a large dining room and library and conservatory on the main
floor before you got to the kitchen.
...Dad said that the big wooden table in the kitchen was used as an operating
table.
...Before Dr. Frank moved into the Baker house, he and his family lived above
the Doctors' office (Baker Building).
...When Dr. Frank died, my grandmother tried to collect on what people owed the
Dr. Most of them refused to pay her and said their debt was with Dr. Baker. Some
of those bills were quite large. One family in particular lived a ways out of
town on a farm and had a large number of children. Dr. Baker had gone out in all
kinds of weather to either deliver those children or take care of them when they
were sick. The family never paid.
...Dad (Richard) and Mark chose not to go into medicine because they knew how
many times their dad had gone out in the middle of the night in all kinds of
weather to attend his patients.
Do not trust as totally valid any tree/report data. Often World Connect or Ancestry trees/data were utilized as a foundation upon which to add material gleamed from obits, articles, histories, biographies, stories, burials, censuses and other data collected. My primary interest is generally the pioneer history and includes linking village and neighborhood surnames together for several of the early generations. Family connections, locations and other data may have to be speculated in order to continue a complex series of inter-related projects. My web pages are primarily personal study projects for note keeping, but can also jump start others. I have a huge number of projects started and rarely return to edit/update material unless interest is rekindled. Any web pages online are usually linked off the 'Index Page.' Numerous projects are not put on web pages but are in draft form or in the form of photo albums on the 'Photo Hosting Site.' I may have material for research use in storage, plus will/can upload other people's material if appropriate.
