Obit: Frances A. (Fannie) Thompson Coleman Oelwein Daily Register - 13 July 1932: Mrs. Joseph Coleman, pioneer resident of Fayette vicinity, passed away Tuesday night, July 5, at the home of her daughter, Mrs. L. L. Cole, after a two weeks illness. Frances A. Thompson, daughter of David and Frances Spriggle Thompson was born March 6, 1949 in Luzerne County, Pennsylvania, near Scranton. When three years of age she came with her parents to Fayette county where much of her life has been spent. Fifteen years of her early womanhood were spent near Portsmouth, Ohio, where she married Joseph Coleman September 28, 1874. From Portsmouth Mr. and Mrs. Coleman came to Fayette where her people still resided. Six children came to bless this home, Bertha, now Mrs. Ethan W. Taylor of Sunnyside, Washington, Fannie, now Mrs. F. D. Holmes of Oelwein, Floyd T. Coleman of Fayette, Merle, now Mrs. Leon K. Knight of Decorah, Mame, now Mrs. L. L. Cole of Fayette and an infant son who died in Ohio. For a number of years Mr. and Mrs. Coleman resided on a farm near Big Rock, until the passing of Mr. Coleman in February, 1914. Since then Mrs. Coleman has lived in Fayette, most of the time being spent in her home on Alexander street. Mrs. Coleman was a member of the Methodist Episcopal church and of the Eastern Star Order. She was very helpful in limes of sickness and in many homes of this vicinity, she has been a source of help and comfort during periods of illness there. Two weeks ago last Wednesday as she was going to the home of her daughter, Mrs. Cole, she suffered a heart attack in the heat on the campus. She was taken to the L. L. Cole home where she has been tenderly cared for by Mrs. Cole and other members of the family. She had been in failing health for some time and decline was very rapid during the last two weeks. She passed away Tuesday night, July 5, about ten fifteen o'clock. The funeral services were held Thursday afternoon at the M. E. Church, conducted by Dr. D. M. Parker of Fayette, with prayer by Dr. Burling of Decorah. A mixed quartet composed of H. Heitler, Mrs. J. W. Crain, Mrs. R. R. Burdick and W. C. VanNess sang two beautiful hymns. She was tenderly laid in rest in Grandview Cemetery beside her husband, by relatives and close friends who acted as casket bearers and flower girls.

Obit: Floyd Coleman FAYETTE (Special) — Floyd Coleman, 65, who lived alone seven miles east of Fayette, committed suicide some time Tuesday, according to county coroner J. R. Wood. Coleman was found shot through the chest on a bed at the Ralph Gates farm, where he lived, by two sons of McKinleyGates (or Gage?) at 5:30 p. m. (NOTE: this is probably Gage not Gates, and were farms in sec 19, Illyria Twp, 3mi WxNW of Wadena or 2mi SE of Albany/Lima or 4+mi E of Fayette village, Fayette Co, Iowa. BZ/6/2009) He had been in failing health for some time. He had been last seen alive Tuesday morning. Surviving are his wife, who lives in Oelwein; five daughters, Ruth and Genevieve of Oelwein, Mrs. Lyle Berry, Fayette, Mrs. Forrest Cumberland, Lamont and Mrs. Gerald Vander of Strawberry Point; two sons, Lyle of Oklahoma and Don of Cedar Rapids, and four sisters, Mrs. L. L. Cole, Fayette, Mrs. Leon Knight, Decorah, Mrs. Fannie Holmes, Oelwein, and Mrs. Taylor of Washington state. Two sons. Linden and Melford, preceded him in death. Funeral arrangements have not been made. Oelwein Daily Register - 20 Nov 1946 Note - burial at Grandview cemetery, Fayette

(NOTE: 1912 Plat…The Coleman farm from abt 1898 to 1914 was about 50acre along the Volga River from Big Rock northward and downstream to the area where the river turns back to the east. Dr. Parker had a ‘camp’ in the area. The farm was mainly pasture as much of it was rugged cliff/hill area along the west side of the Volga. East of the Volga was sandy river bottom soil and there were small fields plowed and rotated with corn, oats, hay. Normal farm animals in limited numbers were supported. The old swinging bridge was on the river in the Coleman farm. The farmstead was still there and lived in until the early 1950’s and then allowed to degenerate and collapse. I remember this farmstead and was in/around it numerous times. I cannot remember who was occupying the buildings when I was young/1940’s. There was no road to the farmstead. It was reached by fording the Volga near the Dean/Dennis farm at the base of the Big Rock hill. BZ/June 2009.

Do not trust as totally valid any tree/report data.  Often World Connect or Ancestry trees/data was utilized as a foundation upon which to add material gleamed from obits, articles, histories, biographies, stories, burials, censuses and other data collected.  My primary interest is generally the pioneer history and includes linking village and neighborhood surnames together for  several of the early generations.  Family connections, locations and other data may have to be speculated in order to continue a complex series of inter-related projects.  My web pages are primarily personal study projects for note keeping, but can also jump start others.  I have a huge number of projects started and rarely return to edit/update material unless interest is rekindled.  Any web pages online are usually linked off the 'Index Page.'  Numerous projects are not put on web pages but are in draft form or in the form of photo albums on the 'Photo Hosting Site.'   I may have material for research use in storage, plus will/can upload other people's material if appropriate.
